A walk in Malacca City

The city of Malacca is home to many historic buildings and shophouses. We took a stroll around the the Dutch Square and along Jonker Walk.

It was a bright, sunny August morning with the typical heat associated with Malacca.

The Dutch square is the iconic landmark in the heart of Malacca City. The Christ Church, clock tower and Stadthuys, which means city hall in Dutch, administrative buildings are known for their distinctive red exteriors that gave the nickname Red Square.

Christ Church

The Christ Church is probably the second most recognisable landmark in Malacca, after the A Famosa. The Anglican church is the oldest functioning Protestant church in Malaysia.

Jonker Walk, a popular tourist spot, is the Chinatown in Malacca, featuring shophouses with Peranakan architecture. Most of these shophouses are well-preserved and are still being used today as shops, restaurants and hotels.

Of course, no Dutch legacy is complete without the Dutch windmill ,albeit a small one in this case. After a short walk to take in the sights, we proceeded to the iconic A Famosa.
