NaNoWriMo 2012

NaNoWriMo

It’s that time of the year again. Writing enthusiasts participate in the National Novel Writing Month, NaNoWriMo, every November. The challenge is to write 50,000 words within the 30 days of the month.

The event has gained popularity over the years since its inception in 2009. I participated in the past three years: 2009, 2010 and 2011. I’m ashamed to say that I have not been able to complete the challenge in all three past attempts.

It’s not a feat to complete the challenge. You simply need to write 1,667 words daily for a month. That’s what I thought. It is actually harder than it seems. You start to loose steam. You get a writer’s block. And there are distractions abound.

I hope to finally make it past the finishing line in my fourth attempt.

Update on photography posts

Photography related posts will be up soon. I have been out of the country the past two months and unedited photos have piled up. This is despite me not going out to shoot on the streets for several weeks.

My post processing workflow is pretty straightforward: import to Lightroom, apply preset, and tweak exposure and framing. I’m glad I have become wiser in this respect. This is a lot smoother than when I was new to photography and was often caught up in with editing the photos.

I still need to work harder to ensure that I nail the exposure and framing so that I can skip this step in post processing.

Retina MacBook Pro

Another factor that disrupted my schedule was the shipping of my Retina MacBook Pro. Ever since my MacBook Air was drowned, I’ve been surviving on my PC. I’m pretty sure the PC enjoys trolling me. It runs perfectly well when I run games but it stutters when I’m editing photo or doing graphics work.

I decided to stop making excuses and ordered the rMBP. This meant that I had to spend time exporting my catalogue to the Mac, configuring the OS and installing the various apps I use.
