iPad 2

I got my iPad 2 nearly a month after it was launched in Singapore. In hindsight, I would have gotten it earlier had I ordered it online. Nevertheless, I’m enjoying the experience so far.

I’ll admit that when the first iPad came out, I did not see myself getting a tablet. I had an iPhone 4 and it was basically the same but with more screen real estate.

Whatever I needed to do on the go could be accomplished with the iPhone. Tasks that were harder to do or could not be done on the iPhone had a solution in the form of the MacBook Air I bought a few months ago.

So why did I get an iPad 2? Well, it’s really simple. I realized that I need a bigger screen. While it is fine to read text messages and email on an iPhone, ebooks and magazines are easier to read on an iPad.

The iPad is very useful tool to showcase (or show off, depending on how you see it) my photographs. I’ve noticed the difference immediately. The iPad has a bigger impact compared to showing my photos on the iPhone.

I got the iPad with the intention of using it as a drawing tablet. I was on the brink of getting a Wacom Intuos4 tablet but I’ve put that on hold to try drawing and painting on the iPad.

I’m still going through my apps and deciding which to keep on the iPhone and which to install on the iPad. I’ll do a follow-up post in a few weeks’ time on how my workflow is divided between the iPhone, iPad and MacBook Air.

It is frustrating that some of the apps I bought on the iPhone are not universal apps, which means I would have to purchase the iPad version. Good apps are worth buying. The developers deserve support if they do a good job and I won’t mind buying the iPad version even if I spent on the iPhone version.
