NaNoWriMo 2009 ended half a month ago. Unfortunately, I was unable to win in my first attempt at the annual writing event. I was confident of doing well with only minimal planning for the settings and characters. And I was amazed by how ideas just kept flowing from the pen. As I wrote, new ideas appeared to spice up the world I created a week before NaNoWriMo started.
In hindsight, I should have anticipated disruptions to my writing hours due to a change of workplace and a trip to Bali. I planned to write during the flight to Bali but I left my writing materials in my luggage. On the return flight, we were all exhausted and slept through the journey.
The unfinished NaNoWriMo attempt sits in a corner of my desk, seemingly mocking at my inability to complete it. I was starting to wonder if I should continue with it when a sudden inspiration led me to continue my work on another piece of work that I ran out of ideas for. So, for now, I will feed on the rich vein of ideas for this story while it lasts. It’s back to the books to hone my writing skills and plan my November 2010 to ensure that I would have the time to work on the NaNo piece.
Congratulations to all those who won!
